Swindon a town made famous by I K Brunel and the Great Western Railway. The Railway Village, a model on which many industrial housing schemes were based, has been preserved and is still in use. The engine building workshops no longer function as originally intended but now contain the railway museum Steam, a discount shopping village and the National Records Office where over three million aerial photographs of the whole country are archived and may be accessed free of charge. Swindon is no longer a single employer town having had a very forward looking council. It now has a wide variety of national and international companies based there and its ideal location alongside the M4 motorway and its rail access to Bristol and London has allowed it to become the fastest growing town in the country for two decades.
